John Searle
John initially got involved with Body Active as a client. He was a Doctor in the NHS but developed
Rheumatoid Arthritis and had to take early retirement at the age of 56, on health grounds. The
disease was reasonably well controlled by drugs but life was restricted and there were some
patches when the arthritis was bad.
Carpe Diem - Seize the day
He went to see Colin early in 2004 as there was increasing evidence that progressive, supervised
exercise was very beneficial to people with rheumatoid. After 4 months working with Colin he was
symptom free for the first time for nine years. He was so impressed he qualified as a trainer
and began to work with Colin
In July 2005, John and his wife, Elizabeth climbed Kilimanjaro (5895m; 19,341ft). In 2007 they
plan to climb the Lenana Peak of Mount Kenya (4985m; 16,361ft).
As well as working with people arthritis and other chronic diseases, John sees a wide age range
of clients. He loves seeing people achieve their goals, whether it is increased mobility, losing
weight, improving their body shape, finding more energy, becoming less stressed or depressed.
John believes passionately that being fit is not just for younger people, sports people and athletes.
It is for everyone who wants to live life to the full. His motto is "Carpe diem" seize the day,
because it is the only one we can be sure we have.
